TRAC "V" Members                                                                             Rio Grande Valley, Texas

Dear Trauma Provider,

The goal of the Trauma Regional Advisory Council Service Area V (TRAC "V") are simply to improve the quality and delivery of care provided to the victims of trauma in Starr, Hidalgo, Cameron and Willacy counties and secondly to enhance communication between the facilities and services that strive to meet this challenge in the Rio Grande Valley.

Charged with achieving the later goal, the TRAC communications sub committee is delighted to have this opportunity to introduce you to the initial phase of the RGV MEDCOM.

Modeled upon systems in place throughout Texas, primarily the MEDCOM system serving the San Antonio area, phase one is designed to utilize alpha numeric pagers combined with flash messaging, in order to communicate with multiple entities simultaneously. The proposed initial application for this system is to enable communication between trauma facilities and EMS providers regarding diversion status of the facility.

Utilizing a single fax, a facility will be able to notify RGV MEDCOM regarding the availability of on call medical specialties, ICU Bed availability etc. All with the aim of insuring that, the trauma patient is transported to the most appropriate facility best equipped to meet the needs of the patient.

It goes without saying that a system will only be effective when all facilities and EMS agencies participating in the TRAC "V" MEDCOM utilize this tool. Therefore, in order to encourage a high degree of participation, the cost of the system is born by the TRAC and the alphanumeric pagers will be supplied at no cost to the participating agencies.

Copies of the working agreement, policies and procedures regarding the paging system may be obtained from the TRAC office.
