Mission :
To develop a network of hospital based health care providers who are committed to the improvement of trauma care in the region.
The South Texas Trauma Coordinators have continued to communicate and meet regularly. Although membership is continually changing, there remains a core group that serves as mentors for the newer coordinators. We have remained active in many projects. Many of the Trauma Coordinators continue to work closely with the Injury Prevention Committee, and have continued to take part in PSA production. Given the large turnover of Trauma Coordinators, our belief is that through support we can increase the longevity in the position. We were also heavily involved with the Stop Red Light Running program while it was active in the Valley. The South Texas Trauma Coordinators continue to have an active role in the Texas Trauma Coordinators Forum, and the Valley is represented at all meetings. Currently we are undertaking two new projects. The first project is to improve consistency with EMS run sheets being left with the patient. The second is the establishment of a Rio Grande ENA Chapter. The first meeting is scheduled for July 02, 2003. In addition, the Trauma Coordinators are all active in the various hospital disaster and bioterrorism/weapons of mass destruction committees. Many of the Coordinators are active on the Rio Grande Valley Hospital Preparedness Committee.
Although the Annual South Texas Trauma Symposium is now under the direction of the Allied Health Committee, the trauma coordinators still play a large role in the planning and the holding of the symposium. The symposium continues to be a success, and our 6th symposium was perhaps the best so far.
